The gym is one of the last places you spend too much time worrying about what you look like. However, don’t be lazy, whilst it can be hard finding something practical to wear whilst still looking good, here are some simple tips to get started.
1. Don’t wear clothing that is 100% cotton
Cotton might be great for home wear as it’s so comfortable however it soaks up moisture rapidly and so will end up clinging to your body once you start to sweat. It’s better to stick with some synthetic fabrics or maybe cotton blends.
2. Correctly fitting sports bra
When you are being active and moving around you need something to keep you secure and comfortable which makes a good sports bra essential.
3. Don’t overdo it with make-up and leave your jewelry at home
You often see jewelry at the gym but quite honestly it can be quite dangerous at times if it gets caught at the gym or the jewelry itself may end up getting damaged. The other common mistake is with wearing too much make up. Once you start to work up a sweat you are going to start worrying about how it all looks whilst also clogging up your pores.
4. Try to wear form fitting clothes
Where possible, try to avoid ill fitting, baggy clothes. Baggy clothes are a bit a safety hazard in that they can get caught in machinery as well as riding up whilst you are exercising and revealing bits you wish not to.
5. Wear the correct shoes
This should be obvious, the correct footwear is essential in the gym. Using a suitable pair of shoes are going to help you run better and support your arches which will help keep you safe as well as perform better.
6. Dress to motivate
This one is often overlooked but try to wear something that fits well and looks good. Quite simply the gym is covered in mirrors and you can’t avoid seeing yourself in them so if you look good you will more often than not perform better and put in some extra effort into doing so. Remember in many cases half the battle is mental so by dressing and looking good you will be well on your way to having a great workout.
